Maybe, just maybe!
I got mine on the day of release and it basically took three days to get the computer working fully again.
Dont get me wrong, once it is fully up and running its great.
Installation is easy but from there, thats where I had problems.
My modem would no longer work, so it was uninstall to Windows ME, download the Windows 2000 driver and re-install XP. Same problem with my scanner, digital camera and printer.
If you want to avoid the hassle it is essential that you have an updated modem driver where necessary - Windows 2000 driver worked fine for me! Then install XP. After that, try out all your hardware and go to the manufacturers websites to download driver updates where necessary.
The user interface is much improved over 98,98SE and ME. So far, leaving aside the driver issue it really does seem like a true upgrade (which ME wasnt) with more stability and importantly, more speed.
If you feel competent in updating drivers, then I would have no hessitation in recommending XP.

Great but with minor errors
I recently bought a state of the art computer, and had to think very carefully about what Windows software to use. As it was brand new, and Im sure many of you would think the same, it is best to use just new programs, and not ones from your previous computer, as they may not be compatible with XP. There are loads of great features to use, and it is made much more simpler. It does take some getting used to, as there are so many things you can do. If you had a previous version of Windows, Im sure you remember the start up button. It was a very simple and basically ugly to look at. It may not make any difference, but its nice to see something more welcoming than that. However, it does have its downsides. For those of you who had been tracking its release, and really wanted to get it, Im sure youll know that XP was and never has been completed. What does this mean? Updates-a lot of them, and big. If you have broadband, then youre ok, as you would only be looking at a few minutes of downloading time. But if you are using the 56k modem, which works up to a maximum of 44kbps, then youre looking at roughly 20 minutes per download, and about now you will be needing over a hundred updates. These are usually security updates, but also program updates are needed. The worst part of this, is when you have to download a service pack. This takes about 3 hours on a 56k modem, and then another 3 to install. Theres only one other big problem that I have noticed. This is when the computer crashes. You get a message coming up, saying a program needs to close, and you can send an error report. On a good day, you wont get any. But otherwise, you could be looking at programs crashing all the time. So, all in all, this is a great program, but do look into it further, before spending the money.

By far the best!
my last OS was W95, but I have also used W98. XP is truly excellent.

The only problems I have experienced was with some of my older software. However, I must stress that with a bit of patience and exploring you can tell XP to run such programs as if they were using one of the older O/Ss (95,98,2000,ETC.) and this solves majority problems.

One of the many great features is the System Restore. As self taut computer user this is invaluable because if change something or add something and are unable to undo it the I can just go back to when everything was OK. Its the ability to turn back time. BRILLIANT!!! :-)

If it were a car it would be a BMW, and you would be able to claim your full no claims as I am yet to experience a system crash
unlike previous O/Ss.

If you thinking of purchasing XP I would say do it I am Sure you wont be disappointed!
